David,

The BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) countries are all on different levels of acceleration. One could argue with Brazil's revised financial infrastructure and recently discovered Atlantic oil reserves they could bypass China in the next five years for economic growth (China's economy will be much, much larger and it is maturing.)

I hear very good things about Vietnam and the investment windows western countries have in that region, particularly some of the mature industries in China such as textiles. It's worth a hard look (and many American descendents there from the war days very open to rediscovering their heritage).

Kind regards,
Bill Newman

Hi folks. I apologize for the absence. I was contracted late in 2009 to write the upcoming title "Understanding SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Performance Management" based on the closed loop business process advocated by Nolan & Kaplan.

I am back in the saddle now, feel free to email me at wnewman@newportconsgroup.com or twitter at @bruinz50.

Cheers!

Many engineers should not even consider manufacturing consultant titles as many engineers have limited imagination primarily because by nature those engineers have dogmatic intelligence..

The best consultants are those who have been leaders of groups that plan and procure supplies. or have been involved in both marketing and supplies.

These are persons who know how to get the most from their associates and usually have alively imagination.

Albet Einstein said "Imigination is worth more than knowledge."

A comment to Suzie Mack.
From an initial visit, funding should not be the primary objective of a "Management Consultant".

The primary goal is to determine if the persons involved with you have viable products and if the products are worthy of being used by people and can the products be successfully marketed.

There are an enormous quantity of ideas that never should have even been thought to become products consequently, if your contact has a viable, bonafided product, funding is not the problem.

The basic problem is that all products must be marketed and if the market potential cannot be accuarately ascertained and then made viable: you
have no business continuing a conversation about the product or service.

Management Consulting is only a service for those with a going business and that business has problems.

If you are involved with "startups" that need funding, your services should not be called "Management Consulting", it should be called "Venture Consulting".

Conversely, if you are involved with a business that needs funding, then get them a person who does "Venture Funding Consulting".

You can be all things to all contacts but only when you can define your own objectives, with your own abilities.

The title "Management Consulting", in the consulting industry is rather restrictive because"Consulting and Consultants" denote interests and abilities in more than one field.

Consequently, to interest more persons and gain their acceptance of what Manufacturing Center is trying to acheive, it is much more appropriate that the Consulting Groups be given an appropriate title to a specific field of expertise.

I believe" Management Consulting" is an appropriate title for those with expertise in managing people and facilities in a manufacturing enterprise that produces any type of product.

An engineer is not necessarily able to become a "Management Consultant" priamrily because the engineer may have specific knowledge in various fields but no experience in managing people and facilities.

It has been my experience when dealing with Managers that they come from all types of educational and work backgrounds so it is very dificult to pinpoint those individuals who will become successful "Managers"

I am trying to get a grip how I can help the smaller manufacturing companies, is there an area of funding you struggle with?
Are the lending institutions tightening up on you?
Do you loose sales due to lack of funding for your customers?

Where's the next China? Is it Vietman, India, Morroco? We are hearing pluses and minuses for each, the right answer may be none of the above. But who ever finds the next China wins. Is it Brazil?
