Great idea for a discussion site, Paul. Are members able to add categories? If so, this would probably get out of hand, but I think a RoHS/WEEE category would be good. Our company is partnering with another company intending to take our product to the EU. This will be my, and our company's, first exposure to RoHS/WEEE. When I get a response as to where these category of questions should be placed, I'll start posting some for comments, unless this message **IS** the beginning.

Hey Bob,
For China (so far), the label goes either on the product or on the packaging, depending on the size of the product.
The declaration document to be completed is simple, and allows you to list different components (not each homogenous material such as with EU) whether it is above the Maximum Concentration Value (MCV), or below (O or X).
Their system is much smarter than EU, as the product shows either a "e" mark in Green (all homogenous material are below the MCV), or a defined number known as the EFUP (Environmetnally Friendly Use Period) within an orange chasing-arrow circle, if it is over the MCV's for any of the materials. This allows the products to be correctly sorted at end-of-life, unlike the EU. They won't know what they have in their recycling bins...

Even though a product may have exemptions for lead, mercury, hex-chrome, cadmium and PBB-PBDE's for the EU RoHS, it is not the same for China. If it is over the MCV, it is over, and receives and "X" in the appropriate square.
We offer these services, packaging labeling and testing, product evaluation and completion of declarations, and we can have them translated into Chinese as well (mandatory).
The mandatory CCC marking requirments for the dreaded "Catalog" has not been finalized (it may never be), but when it does, it will be products that can already meet the EU RoHS Directive.
Hope this helps,

I would like to contribute as much as possible to the RoHS/WEEE discussion forum.
I am the RoHS/WEEE Manager for North America for TUV Rheinland of North America.
I've been working on this topic and helping manufacturers comply with this topic since 2003. I believe sharing my knowledge would be a great benefit to this group.
